Heart to Heart is preparing to respond to an outbreak of swine flu (subtype H1N1) in Mexico. We have been in contact with our trusted partners in Mexico City, as well as Mexican health officials, to determine their greatest needs at this moment.
"Our approach is not to fight swine flu," said Dr. Jeff DeGraffenreid, Heart to Heart's chief operating officer, "but rather to contain this monster virus."
One way Heart to Heart plans to do that is by deploying several crisis-response modules to affected regions within Mexico. Our Personal-Protective Equipment (PPE) module is designed to protect up to 500 healthcare workers from the spread of infectious diseases in the event of an outbreak. By protecting doctors, nurses and public-health workers, we can achieve two important objectives: First, we ensure that the healthcare infrastructure is continuously accessible to those who are infected; second, we ensure that healthcare workers do not contract the virus and spread it exponentially to their patients.
Our goal is to have 10 modules ready to send at a moment's notice. The call could come any minute.
We need your help to respond to this crisis. Make a donation today to our Crisis Response Fund.
Thanks in advance for supporting our relief efforts!
